Booking Terms

Payment, cancellation, and everything in between.

These terms apply to all direct bookings with 175° East. If you booked through Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com, or another platform, that platform's own terms apply — check your booking confirmation for details.

Payment

A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking to confirm your dates. Payment can be made by bank transfer or credit card.

The remaining 50% balance is due 7 days before your arrival date. You'll receive a reminder from us ahead of that date.

A $150 NZD pre-authorisation is held on your card at check-in and voided within 7 days of your departure, provided there are no additional charges.

Additional charges may apply for:

  • Extra guests above the included number (charged at $50 per person per night)
  • Late checkout or early check-in (subject to availability — ask us)
  • Additional cleaning if the property is not left in an acceptable condition

Cancellation

Our cancellation policy for direct bookings:

  • 14 or more days before arrival: Full refund of all prepayments
  • 7–14 days before arrival: 50% refund of all prepayments
  • Less than 7 days before arrival: No refund

If you booked through a third-party channel (Airbnb, Vrbo, etc.), that platform's cancellation policy applies — not this one.

We understand that getting to Great Barrier Island depends on the ferry and flights — both of which can be affected by weather. We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance that covers accommodation cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances.

Check-in & Check-out

Check-in: From 2:00 PM on your arrival day.
Check-out: By 10:00 AM on your departure day, unless otherwise agreed.

Key House Rules

  • Guest numbers: Must match your booking. Additional guests require approval in advance and may incur extra charges.
  • Pets: Not permitted without prior written approval. Where approved, pets must be kept off furniture and beds.
  • Smoking: Not permitted inside. Outside only, away from decks — all butts must be removed.
  • Parties and events: Not permitted without prior written approval.
  • Noise: No excessive noise after 11:00 PM.
  • Fires: No open fires or fireworks at any time. Wood burners inside are fine — use them.
  • Water: All properties rely on rainwater tanks. Please use water conservatively.
  • Rubbish: All rubbish must be removed or disposed of using the council collection service on departure.
  • Departure condition: Leave the place tidy — dishes cleaned and put away, beds tidy, furniture back in place. Standard cleaning (bathrooms, floors) is covered by the cleaning fee.

The person who made the booking is responsible for all members of the group and any visitors for the duration of the stay. The lead booker must be present on-site for the full rental period unless agreed otherwise in writing.

Questions or Issues

Contact us as soon as possible — we're reachable between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM during your stay. Because of the island's remote nature, some issues take a little longer to resolve (tradespeople and parts aren't always immediately available), but we'll always do our best to sort things out promptly.

Any complaints that can't be resolved between us will be referred to mediation through a mutually agreed professional mediator.

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
